Branch Policies

The YMCA strives to foster the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith in all that we do. We ask that all members follow these courtesies:

Severe Inclement Weather Policy
Jefferson County Family YMCA morning classes will be called off when the Festus School District calls snow days for inclement winter weather. YMCA staff will re-evaluate the weather at 2:00 p.m. and a decision will be made for the afternoon and evening classes at that time. YMCA facilities typically remain open even when classes and programs are canceled except for extreme weather emergencies. Please call us at (636) 931-YMCA(9622) to check status.

Guest Policy
We welcome guests when accompanied by a member who is least 16 years of age. Guests may visit twice before joining or paying a daily use fee. (Daily use for non-members may be limited or restricted at times.) Limit two guests per family per visit.

Financial Scholarships
No one is turned away from the YMCA for an inability to pay. Financial scholarships are available thanks to the generous support of those who give to our YMCA Strong Community Campaign. Applications are available at the Y.

Supervision of Children
Children must be supervised during their visit to the Y. A parent or guardian must remain in the facility with children under the age of 13.

Workout Attire
Workout clothes should be modest and in good taste. Shorts or pants (no jeans) and a shirt are appropriate in most areas of the facility. Please, no street shoes, work boots or sandals in the fitness center or gymnasium. No shoes allowed on the pool deck. Proper swimming suits are required.

Fitness Center Consultation
We recommend our complimentary fitness center consultation to support your wellness needs as you are getting started at the YMCA. Our staff will also review some important courtesies including towel usage for wiping down equipment after use.

Pool Usage Policies
Please shower before entering pool. Walk when on pool deck. Trained lifeguards have final authority when enforcing pool and safety rules. Children under 8 must have adult within arm’s reach in the water. Safety is our first priority, and we reserve the right to clear the pool for inclement weather. We close the pool when lightning is observed and for 30 minutes after its last strike. Lap swimming is available for ages 13 and up. During lessons, lap lanes may be limited or unavailable. Email Ramona for information on the best time to swim!

Lockers
Store personal items in the locker room. Each member or guest should provide a lock when using a locker. Please remove locks when you leave the facility. Locks left on overnight will be removed and contents taken to the service center. Lost & Found items are discarded weekly. Locks are available for purchase at the service center. Some lockers are available for rent. For information on locker rentals, email Debbie.

40 Developmental Assets for Youth
The YMCA of Greater St. Louis has joined forces with other YMCAs in the U.S. and the Search Institute to further develop the 40 developmental assets proven to be critical in the positive development of children. The Jefferson County Family YMCA uses the asset approach in youth programs. In swim lessons, for example, the YMCA helps kids build assets by providing support of caring instructors, motivation for learning and positive reinforcement. The more assets your child acquires, the better! Click here for the 40 Developmental Assets.

YMCA Code of Conduct

In keeping with the Christian values of the Young Men's Christian Association, the Jefferson County Family YMCA requests all participants to behave in a manner fitting a value rich environment.

Participants who:

  • Use inappropriate language,
  • Fight
  • Have unauthorized guests,
  • Show disrespect to staff or fellow members

will be asked to leave the facility.

Any person asked to leave the facility for breaking the code of conduct will not be permitted back into the YMCA until they or their parents have met personally with the executive director.

How are we doing? We value your comments and suggestions. Please email us with your feedback, concerns and ideas. Thank you!
