Membership Policies

Your Membership Card

Your membership card is your key to the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. Present your YMCA membership card every time you visit your Y. Full and Metro members age 13 and up will be issued permanent membership cards. Memberships and cards are non-transferable.

You may also use your membership card to create your account in online registration, where you can register for classes and programs. Click here to access online registration.

Guest Policy

We welcome guests when accompanied by a member who is least 16 years of age. Guests may visit twice before joining or paying a daily use fee. (Daily use for non-members may be limited or restricted at times.) Limit two guests per family per visit. We invite your out-of-town relatives to join you for free for up to two weeks per quarter. Your relatives will be asked to show proof of residency outside a 75-mile radius of the Y.

Financial Scholarships

No one is turned away from the YMCA for an inability to pay. Financial scholarships are available thanks to the generous support of those who give to our YMCA Strong Community Campaign and through the Franklin County Area United Way.  Download your financial assistance application here.

Expected Behavior

The YMCA is an inclusive, family-friendly organization. We expect all our members and guests to model our Core Values—Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility—in their conduct and language. The YMCA has the right to terminate a membership at our discretion if actions or behaviors are not deemed in the best interests of the organization.

Physical Readiness

Before starting any exercise program, please check with your primary care physician. If you are age 13 or older, you may ask our fitness staff for a Health and Wellness Consultation to help you determine what level of workout is right for you. Talk with our fitness center staff to get recommendations on our cardiovascular machines, free weights and circuit training machines.

Member Comments

We value your suggestions for improving our YMCA. If you have a comment or suggestion, please pass it along to any member of our staff, fill out a member comment card and drop it in one of the suggestion boxes located throughout our YMCA, or contact us by e-mail or phone.

Services for People With Disabilities

The YMCA of Greater St. Louis serves people of all abilities. Through our Inclusion Services Department, we provide reasonable accommodations to enable all people to participate in our programs and classes.

Ready, Set, Go!

Ready to go? As a new member, you can also take advantage of our “no wait enrollment”program—get right into a class at a pro-rated fee when you join (available for most classes).

Sexual Offender Background Check Policy

The mission of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Important to this effort is our ability to provide a safe and threat-free environment. For this reason the YMCA monitors the sexual offender registry. Persons on the list will not be eligible for YMCA membership, program participation, volunteer or employment opportunities with the YMCA of Greater St. Louis.

Supervision of Children

Children must be supervised during their visit to the Y. A parent or guardian must remain in the facility with children under the age of 12.

Workout Attire

Workout clothes should be modest and in good taste. Shorts or pants (no jeans) and a shirt are appropriate in most areas of the facility. Please, no street shoes, work boots or sandals in the fitness center or gymnasium. No shoes allowed on the pool deck. Proper swim suits are required.

Fitness Center Consultation

Members 13 and up are welcome in the fitness center.  We recommend our complimentary fitness center consultation to support your wellness needs as you are getting started at the YMCA for all members.  The consultation is required for members ages 13-16.  Our staff will also review some important courtesies including towel usage for wiping down equipment after use, signing up for cardio equipment, maximum use time for cardio equipment, “working in” while using circuit equipment and age restrictions.

Severe Inclement Weather Policy

Four Rivers Area Family YMCA morning classes will be called off when the Washington School District calls snow days for inclement winter weather. YMCA staff will re-evaluate the weather at 2:00 p.m. and a decision will be made for the afternoon and evening classes at that time. YMCA facilities typically remain open even when classes and programs are canceled except for extreme weather emergencies. Please call us at (636) 239-5704 to check status.

Pool Usage Policies

Please shower before entering pool. Walk when on pool deck. Trained lifeguards have final authority when enforcing pool and safety rules. Children under 8 must have adult within arm’s reach in the water. Children ages 8-11 must have adult drop off/pick them up from pool deck and adult must remain in facility. Safety is our first priority, and we reserve the right to clear the pool for inclement weather. We close the pool when lightning is overhead and for 30 minutes after its last strike. Lap swimming is available for ages 13 and up and swim team members. During lessons and swim team, lap lanes may be limited or unavailable. Email Anne for information on the best time to swim!

Family Changing Areas

Children ages 3 and up should use the appropriate gender locker rooms. Family changing areas are also available.

Lockers

Store personal items in the locker room. Each member or guest should provide a lock when using a locker. Please remove locks when you leave the facility. Locks left on overnight will be removed and contents taken to the service center. Lost & Found items are discarded weekly. Locks are available for purchase at the service center. Some lockers are available for rent. For information on locker rentals, email Benita.
