Campus Y History, Mission, and Purpose
History
The Lindenwood University Campus YMCA started in the spring of 2005, originally known as the Y-Club. The Campus YMCA was recognized by the YMCA of Greater St. Louis as an operation site during the 2005-2006 school year. A staff person was assigned to the site to help student leaders form programs. The Board of Advisors was formed in the spring of 2006. In 2007, the Campus YMCA received the Organization of the Year Award. In 2009 and 2010 the Campus YMCA received the Distinguished Service Award. All awards were awarded by the Lindenwood Student Government Association.
Mission
The Campus YMCA is a student-centered organization dedicated to developing ethical leaders of exemplary character by applying the principles of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis in partnership with Lindenwood University.
Purpose
Sharing the belief that freedom, dignity and opportunity for all people are essential to the realization of a more just and humane world, the Campus YMCA community works to expand social commitment and foster meaningful relationships. We strive to serve the community, to develop leadership skills, and to expand ethical understandings.
During 2010-2011
41 students participated in Campus YMCA programs providing 2,942 hours of service to 5,444 people locally in 8 collaborative partnerships. The estimated economic impact of our service was $62,841.*
