Healthy Kids Day Encourages Families to 'Take On Summer' By Keeping Body and Mind Active
The Y is celebrating Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free events that help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities and inspire them to carry that spirit of fun into the summer. Through Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids, the Y challenges families to “Take on Summer” by addressing critical gaps in kids’ health and education. The Y Honors Brian McKanna as Youth of the Year
Brian McKanna of Wildwood isn’t a typical 17-year old Lafayette High School junior. And his unmatched interest in improving the community, serving as an amazing role model for children and taking leadership roles in model government for high school students, recently won him the Wildwood Family YMCA Youth of the Year award.
Then - from a pool of 14 outstanding Youths of the Year from area Y branches - he was named the YMCA of Greater St. Louis Joseph P. Sunnen Youth of the Year.
For this he will receive a scholarship of approximately $62,000 generously awarded by Lindenwood University in St. Charles. He plans to study broadcasting at Lindenwood as a result of his media involvement in Y Youth in Government. Read more

The Y Celebrates the Good Life on New Year’s Day--St. Louis Area YMCAs Host Open House Sunday, January 1
Branches of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis* will be open to the public on New Year’s Day, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., to accommodate those individuals intent on making good on their New Year’s resolution of Healthy Living! Those who join the Y on January 1 will receive a special membership offer and have the opportunity to take part in sample classes, special activities and receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last. YMCA Lifeguards Put To The Test at 7th Annual Competition
More than 100 certified Y lifeguards from St. Louis Y branches competed in the 7th annual Lifeguard Competition at the Edward Jones Family YMCA, July 23, 2011. The West County Family YMCA was the overall champion in Division A, while the O'Fallon, Four Rivers Area and South City YMCAs captured honors in Division B.
Members and guests of the Y are the real winners, however. They can feel safe and secure under the watchful eyes of our Y lifeguards!
