Branch History
Conception for the South County family YMCA began in 1962 when South County residents formed a committee to plan a facility that would provide the community, especially young people, with a wholesome place to meet.
The committee raised money for a down payment on the land the YMCA currently occupies.
Programs were run from a rented office until 1982 when a 38,000 square foot building was constructed. The facility was expanded in 1985 and 1988 to keep up with the growing membership and the South County community.
The current 55,000 square foot facility on 12 acres features a Fitness Center, two racquetball courts, multipurpose room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, steam rooms, sauna, exercise room, fields and an outdoor running track.
In 1999, as a result of the Vision 2000 Capital Development Program, a 4,500 square foot addition was completed. The addition included a new 5,000 square foot state-of-the-art Fitness Center and a Children's Center for gymnastics and dance. Thanks to a generous gift from our friends at St. Anthony's Medical Center, we were able to convert the former fitness center into an Interactive Family Hub.

We are nearing the final stages of a Capital Campaign to expand our lobby and entrance, making it friendlier and more inviting for members and guests. If you would like information how you can support our Capital Campaign with a pledge, contact Matt Clark.
